Iranian critics and screenwriters honor “Nader and Simin”

TEHRAN -- More honors were added to the records of “Nader and Simin, a Separation” as it won the best film and best director awards at the annual celebration of the Society for Cinema Critics and Screenwriters on Monday.
A portrayal of the break-up of a marriage, “Nader and Simin” was directed and produced by Asghar Farhadi.He received the best film award from Iran’s House of Cinema Managing Director Mohammad-Mehdi Asgarpur and Fatemeh Motamed-Arya during the celebration at Tehran’s Eyvan-e Shams Hall.
The best director award was given to Farhadi by veteran director Masud Kimiaii, who had a heart bypass operation last month.
“He is unique and special… he is also really kind; one day when I opened my eyes in the hospital, I saw his kind eyes,” Kimiaii said.
Farhadi said that his generation owes their interest in cinema to Kimiaii.
“When I was a teenager, I kept reading a book over and over that Zaven Qukasian had written about Masud Kimiaii,” he added.
The best actor and actress awards were also given to the film’s stars Peyman Mo’adi and Sareh Bayat.
Hayedeh Safiyari won the best editor prize and Shahab Hosseini received the best supporting actor award for the film.
“Nader and Simin” won a Golden Bear for best film at the Berlin film festival and its cast ensemble received best actor and actress Silver Bears at the event.
The special jury award of the celebration was shared by Reza Mirkarimki for “A Lump of Sugar” and Abdorreza Kahani and Soleiman Ali-Mohammad for “Horse Is a Noble Animal”.
The best screenwriter award went to Bahram Tavakkoli for “Here without Me”.
The best supporting actress award was given to Rima Raminfar for her role in “A Lump of Sugar”.
